  • Great 300m Marks [Cooper now sets HSR] [and a WJR]

There were some great 300m performances today at Clemson. Hayes set the American record, and Candace Hill ran a 36.85. How does Hill performance rank on the junior scene? I don't think junior records are kept for the 300m.

Official WRs are not recognized at the distance, but as far as I can see, Francena McCorory's 36.67 in 2007 is the only junior performance ahead of Hill's on the all-time list.

If she were still an amateur, Hill would have broken the HSR of McCorory---36.96!
As for "junior" records or lists, have no idea----but I'm pretty certain Hill DID set a World Age 17 record, as she turns 18 on February 11th!!

McCorory's 36.67 was run the year AFTER she graduated HS!!

Also, the official results show Hill's time as 36.86, not 36.85!

Incredible results! Hill ran also a 60m (7.30 nothing special) but this 300m shows she can be very dangerous at 200m. Hayes, a sub 50 400m specialist, produced a great mark. It's just half a second slower than the world record (world best) for the distance, indoor. She should be added to Millrose games, if she is not already running.

Grant Holloway 32.80 2nd fastest 19 year old (not Jr).

            Also ran 7.63 in 60mh

Wow that run from Hill is serious, especially in the first half of January. She rose to fame running sub 11 in the 100m but these kind of performances might see her with greater success at 200m. 7.30 is PB right?

Saw a YouTube video of the entire race.
Hayes and Hill had the 2 outer lanes.
By about 180 (or 160?) point, Hayes had made up the stagger, and was in front.
She just continued to pull away, but both looked strong to the end!

Hayes is already a known 400 gal, having gone sub-50 OUTdoors.
                But what about Hill?
Will she try the 400---and can she also run a sub-50?
Maybe not this year, but by 2020!

If so, and with continued development in the 100 & 200, she could be one of the greatest 3-sprint women ever!
(Keep in mind her 36.86 beat McCorory's HSR (though not officially, because of her pro status), and Fran went on to crack 50 many times!!)

Millrose 300 will be fast. Natasha Hastings and Shaunae Miller are running as well as HS'er Sydney McLaughlin. McLaughlin might be able to break that 36.67 record. It's her first 300m since running 37.47 as a sophmore.

If Hayes ran that fast, I think Miller could have a shot at the WR. I hope Hayes tries again before the indoor season ends.

In men's news, Tyrese Cooper took .02 off the High School Indoor Record today. He ran the 300 in 33.03 in Virginia. Cooper is a 16-year old Soph.

Very close to the AJR/WJR of 33.01 set back in 86

McLaughlin 37.11 at the Armory today

Sydney McLaughlin, who has committed to the University of Kentucky to compete in track and field, ran the second-fastest 300-meter race in U.S. high school history on Saturday.
