Not bad for a school that only has Women's Track & Field!

The SPIRE facility is a multi-use one but I think that the primary reason for the 300m track was to have a large area for conducting a full meet. The Big Ten has moved the Indoor Championship Meet there the last several years and everyone I talked to loves it. You can have both the men and women at the same time, there is lots of room for everything, etc. I do not think that they are trying to fit it around some non-track stuff. However, clearly a 300m track provides a lot more room for multiple runways so you can be running a big meet with lots of stuff going on all the time.

I know of a lot of people that do not what to run really hard/fast (mostly applies to top-level athletes for whom fast is really fast) on a Flat 200m track as it is too hard on the body.

And as far are records go, running on a 300m track (compared to a banked 200), even for a long distance race, provides nothing like the differential between +2.0 wind and 0 or -1.0 wind in the 100, and yet the records throw those all in to the same bin (same with altitude but we stick big red As on those to discourage record seeking).

I believe that is a track and field specific facility which means, likely, a 200m track. Most of the OTs are multi-use facilities. It really looks like a beautiful setup.

It's great they ran fast---but wouldn't it be so much greater if their times were seen on official lists??

    SOME people care about that!!
I can appreciate the fact that you, and perhaps others, care about recording times. I don't think the board needs to be reminded of what you care about whenever a meet is held on an oversized track.

T&FN DOES compile 'absolute' lists with those marks on them!
Anyone who knows anything about T&F statistics knows that the T&FN LISTS are the best ones!

Error. A HR would be meaningless in a LL park. A time on a 300m oval is 'slower' but comparable to an outdoor track (esp. a banked 300-er.) Plus, all indoor 200m track are not equivalent. A flat board track is nowhere near the same as a banked Mondo track.

I PREFER OT indoor tracks precisely because they CAN run faster. Isn't that kinda the point?

Looks like Vandy sets up some bleachers, too.

Washington State used to put a set of bleachers on the infield (along the backstretch, facing inwards) for its one "big" indoor meet of the year.

I was always shocked that a few hundred people would turn out, given that we're talking a big brick barn with no heating at a time of year when it was freezing out, and the inside walls had ice formations. Fortunately, the dirt stayed relatively soft

(i know, file this under, "uh-oh, here comes dad's story about walkign uphill both ways to school across ice floes")

It's a similar appearing facility to others I've seen such as the Tressel facility at Youngstown State (which also provides an indoor football practice field IIRC). Barely enough room to get the athletes in the building.

OT's need to be BANNED for qualifying, and for championship or conference meets!!
