particularly for a team in sunny SoCal which has little reason even to think about indoor competition.
I read on a usc fanboard which mentioned track and field that the few fans commenting were happy that the kids were not being rushed and overworked. They didn't mention anyone by name but seem to imply the freshman although I think the freshman women have competed. One guy seemed to know his stuff. He even mentioned Edesel Garrison and Willie Deckard. I don't know whether that means he knows a lot or he's just old.
I also don't think it's a focus of the program (indoors). Last year the women competed to some degree in a few events. The men sent a few field eventers and that was it. I don't think they sent anyone 2 years ago.
I'm trying to figure out why anyone is even discussing USC track and field....and I'm an SC grad! That program has next to zero interest, at least based on attendance at the most recent conference meet held there. Apart from one women's NC in 2001 (thank you, Angela Williams), that program hasn't won a national championship in four decades.
if winning a national title is the rubric for supporting a program, the last 4 decades hasn't coughed up very many programs worth doing it. And when the Trojans were winning every year, that made everybody else useless, so to speak.
