Whatever Trump does won't affect LA 2024 one bit, unless he bans the whole IOC. Just look at the IOC reactions to this, they don't care at all. Trump could be waterboarding puppies on primetime tv and the IOC still wouldn't care.

Like every other selection, it'll come down to whoever hands over the biggest envelope under the table.

Weak reason....no taxpayer expense has been incurred from US hosting OG's...and it won't be this time, either.

not so sure...mid eastern and african nations may vote against USA out of spite...face it, the world hates POTUS right now. It doesn't matter what the F is going on in 2024

Prior to Trump many nations resented (for whatever reason) the USA. That number had probably increased significantly and will likely continue to grow over coming months. I think LA getting the nod will be a surprise

But countries don't have a vote, IOC members do.

True, but at least some IOC members share the views of their governments and compatriots.

This i seriously doubt. Last year ONE member of the IOC voted for Russia to be banned, Adam Pengilly from GB. There were strong voices all around the world demanding a complete ban which didn't matter at all to the IOC. They don't vote what's best for the sport, best for athletes, they only vote what's best for the IOC, meaning themselves. LA 2024 would probably get the IOC a lot more money than Paris or Budapest and that alone might be reason enough for vote for it.

While all of that might be true, it was true a week ago as well. So, the question at hand is if the policy and positions of Trump have altered the likelihood at all. I see essentially zero probability that it improved things. I think it likely will have hurt things some. I am somewhat stunned at the sorts of reasons that are being given for it not being relevant, almost all of them having to do with the situation before Trump's policy and not really addressing whether it would have any effect.

I suppose that I would like to see LA win; it is not unlikely that I will be back in the LA area (LA '84 was shortly before I left 30+ years ago) or at least in California.

100,000 visas were revoked as a result of the executive order. It's going to be kinda hard to get international support for a mass-travel event like the Olympics if prospective travelers to the US are worried about such adversity and uncertainty.
