New African record. Men's LJ should be hot this year, with Lawson and Henderson hopefully improving also.

Good for him! Been wondering when we'd hear of him again.

A bit up there at 1,339 m (4,393 ft) but also an all time top 40 performances hit.

Would a U.S. record be ratified if it were at this altitude? Just wondering. Lawson should be over 28'10" this year...how far was his final OG jump not counting trailing hand?

Looked to be maybe 5cm farther than Henderson's winning jump of 8.38

no ratifying body DQs marks for excess altitude (although I certainly think they should)

The 8.62 was his first jump:

"Manyonga once again produced an impressive and faultless sequence of jumps of 8.62m, 8.29m, 8.34m and 8.34m before he retired due to an ankle niggle."

8.62 is the longest jump in the world since 2009!

                      Thank you very much!

Any wind readings for the last 3 jumps?

In recent years the only gigantic thing about South African T&F has been the controversies generated by their athletes.

Video of the 8.62 is linked below. 30 seconds in length, with replay.

I note that the one comment accompanying the video is critical of the music. I have only watched the video on mute (my habit); your choice in that regard.

This one is somewhat better picture quality. It is ten minutes long, with one replay after another.
