I try to keep up, but I managed to get to today without ever having heard of Reed Brown. Thus, my brief "career retrospective" is here, based on a quick perusal of all-athletics.com and tilastopaja. Below is a selected progression of marks for the mile (and one @ 1600). He has others, but this is what I have at hand that seems most illustrative of his progression in the last year+:

          2016
          4:09.95i 13 March
          4:08.85 18 June
          4:04:73 2 July

          2017
          4:06.40i 11 February
          4:06.74i 12 March
          4:03.23 1 April
          4:02.49 13 May [1600m]

So, yesterday's mark is a PB of nearly 4 seconds for this distance.

He also has these bests, all from this year: 1:53.41 (25 March); 8:51.87 (13 April/3200m); 14:37.51 (13 March).

Clinger didn't get there tonight in Boston. In fact he wasn't even the fastest from his high school.

Is Clinger really a miler? I think of him more as a 2-miler (in HS) and potentially a 5000 guy in college and beyond.

I don't propose to know the attributes of every kid who steps on the track with a nice PR but he'd run a 4:02 (on a relay leg I think) and the race was touted a bit as a sub 4 attempt.

Reed Brown was also Foot Locker champ last fall -- after taking 5th (I think) at NXN XC.
