  • European Under 20 Championships (EJC) - Jakob Ingebrigsten going for a triple?

According to Jakob himself he is trying to do a triple (1500 3000S and 5000) at EIC. The timetable is on his side, apart from having to run 1500 final and 5k final on the same day in two hours. BTW, the program for him would be, at Grosseto's times:

    TUESDAY 20 6:05 PM 1500 Heat
    FRIDAY 21 6:50 PM 3000S Heat
    SATURDAY 22 1500 5:20 PM Final and 6:45 PM 5000 Final (direct)
    SUNDAY 23 5.55 PM 3000S Final

I think this would rule out him doing London in less than two weeks. I think racing that much would probably mean ending season or something like that.
The heats (3000SC mainly) should be easy for him but... I am not sure he can do that.

With his margin of dominance over his European rivals, I think it is actually doable, but he will have to manage his effort well.

Clearly you're not familiar with Nordic t&f. We will let our juniors burn themselves out before senior age :> Sweden, Norway, Finland all the same. Injuries galore ofc., but at least we had ambitions.

1 to 2 seconds over his nearest rivals in the 1500 is not what I would call dominance. Especially with that schedule.

His 1500 best doesn't fully reflect his ability. He has a relatively better time at 1 mile. It is still true he's less dominant in this event than the two others, but that will also be his first final, so he will be relatively fresh (the two heats he has to run on the first two days won't take much out of him).

It's a shame Norway didn't go to the World U18 Champs. For once there was a European capable of mixing it with the Kenyans and Ethiopians in the distance races. But of course that would have been difficult to combine with the Euro U20s.

A great battle is in store in the heptathlon. Ruckstuhl has scored 6291 in Gotzis and Shukh had 6208 in poor conditions at the Euro Team Champs, beating her.

After 2 events, Shukh is 100 points up on PB pace after jumping 1.87 and Ruckstuhl is 47 points up on hers.

Exciting competition with a lot of athletes above 1m80 in the high jump.
I would put my money on Shukh, but that will be close.
I see ~6300 pts for the winner.

With no mishaps, I think both Shukh and Ruckstuhl should be over 6300. 6400 isn't out of the question, either.

World U20 champion Sarah Lagger has also improved her PB this year, going over 6000, but she looks to be way behind the top 2.

The other highlight of these championships should be men's PV, which, in addition to Mondo, will have three more guys who have gone at least 5.60 this year.

Sarah Lagger has not really progressed a lot the last 2 years, since Cali.
She's the World Junior champ but might not even be on the podium at this Euro.
                    Quite a shame.

It is true she hasn't had a major breathrough, but has already broken her PB this year and looks on course for another one. I would say she still looks like the favourite to take bronze. And she is unlucky to be up against two great athletes this year. 6000+ points at 17 is nothing to sniff at!

After 3 events, the big 3 are still up on their PBs: Shukh by 126, Ruckstuhl by 23, Lagger by 63.

A bit too cocky for me. Jacob that is.

At the end of day 1, Shukh is +141 points vs her PB, Ruckstuhl +29, Lagger +46.

Shukh is looking like the favorite right now, but not yet a lock. JT could be the key event. Both Shukh and Ruckstuhl are capable of huge throws, but can they both actually get them under pressure?

Indeed. But it was not about the total amount of points, rather the evolution.
Morgan Lake also used to score 6000+ at 16-17.
                              Anyway, I wish her well.
