    21.45 -0.8 200m 1st

First meet back and he does that many races in such a short span?!
I wonder if that's his decision or that of a coach.

Has he changed sports or just events?

I hope he makes it to college before he does permanent harm to himself. Hopefully his college coach can keep him from destroying himself.

If this workload on Cooper is a coaching decision...dumb.

If the coach allowed a rehabbing 17 year old to make such a choice...dumb.

Agreed, someone needs to save him from himself or his current coach.

May need more help saving himself than originally thought.

Miami Norland (FL) High junior Tyrese Cooper, 18, was booked by Miami Dade Police on Monday on four alleged charges, including grand theft attempt of a vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief.

Tyrese Cooper arrested on burglary charges

My son just texted me this (reading Milesplit during class?)
                    Deserves its own thread (unfortunately).

Note he's 18 so would charged as an adult.

Horrible news. I hope he can come back from all of this, but it will be difficult to say the least.

Depressing. Also odd that people on milesplit objected to posting the news item. They'd be wanting to know what happened if Cooper had disappeared from competitions without explanation...

This situation exemplifies for me why the US is so f’d up in the way it handles such situations.

In NZ the kid would be arrested as well and immediately appear in court. But, he would then be remanded on bail on his own recognisance to reappear for trial at a later date.

He would never be locked up in jail for this sort of thing. Social services would move in immediately to start working with kid and his family - if he had one.

But to lock him up? and so he now joins the freshman class of Crime University which more often than not eventually turns kids like him out as a full crime equipped graduate until he becomes one day a lecturer at Crime University
