Meanwhile....
Report suggests Hayward's east grandstand isn't in terrible shape: Oregon track & field rundown
A couple things ...
I've now seen a copy of a 2016 report on the condition of Hayward Field's east grandstand ,and things apparently aren't as dire as they sometimes have been portrayed.
The report was prepared by the firm Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc. for the architectural firsm SRG Partnership, and delivered on April 29, 2016.

This will be the first year since 2011 I won't be attending a meet at Hayward, and it's a bummer. But thinking about Hayward and the new thing that is to be built....one of the really fun things about Hayward that I'm not sure has been discussed here is how easy it is for the fans to interact with the athletes, mostly on their victory laps. It was pretty cool for my kids get autographs and/or photos taken with Eaton, Gatlin, Bromell, Farah, and others. I wonder if the same sort of setup will be present, along the back straight and home straight? It's so inherent in T&F there that I have to think it's been talked about behind those closed doors.

You read my mind....too bad you won't be there....kuha and I will drink a pint in your honor.
Meanwhile someone I know sent this...
however, I recently learned that a good friend (Todd Van Horne) was one of the principle designers ...Not sure of his role in it (he's who designed all the interior of the Marcus Mariotta Building and the base that holds the Heisman. He also did a lot of the interior design work for Matt Arena, and used to be the chief designer for all of the football uniforms. He's Phil's other 'go-to' design guy after Tinker....and perhaps, the nicest guy in the world. Brilliant. and humble (and a fabulous father and husband....)

I figured out why Conor is so bent out of shape over this. He's a closet White Sox fan!

Reflecting on my first visit to Hayward (worth the trip!), and the slightly obtrusive, but charming, green pillars reminded me a bit of Old Comiskey. Of course, that's now a parking lot...
