It's interesting to me, somehow CrossFit has created an individual sport (of EXERCISE!?) that is extremely popular for fans, participants, and business owners (The boxes, equipment producers, etc).
The competition format is primarily individual, but does have teams as well. It lets everyone from the average couch potato to the best in the world compete head to head in the same events. And you get to see where you stand, and explore how you can progress.
I wonder what track and field could learn from this. Hell, running is a lot more participated in than weightlifting and rope climbing. We could have a global online competition covering a variety of track and related fitness domains. Performance has to be judged or video taped, etc.
