  • ¶2018 mNCAA—4x4: USC 2:59.00 CR

    Men 4x4 has both 3:01 teams (plus 3:03) in heat 1 ??
Are they seeded by time or regional place?

The six first-round heat winners are all in the proper heats.

It has to be by place, otherwise....It doesn't make any sense....

How does USC and A&M get seeded in the same semi-heat??

FLA in the same heat for good measure....and Iowa, as you mentioned. smh

Also in the womens 100m, you have Gabby Thomas, Collins from Tenn, and Twanisha Terry in a stacked heat as well. Should be fun to watch for sure...

Methinks that those great teams will get in by time qualifiers if necessary. The biggest disadvantage might be Iowa because they might have to burn too many matches to get to the final.

Looking at the men's 4x4, it looks like the heats are set up as:
          Heat 1:
West: Fastest of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and little q place finishers from the 3 West heats (note that these came from the same heat)
East: Slowest of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and little q place finishers from the 3 East heats

          Heat 3:
East and West reversed from heat 1.

          Heat 2:
All of the 2nd fastest placers from heats.

In my opinion, it looks stupid.

Looks like the seeding for the m4x4 was done by place (faster higher seed among place) serpentine.

            1USC/6UF
            2Houston/5WKU
            3Arkansas/4LSU

TAMU is in the first semi with USC because they were the fastest 2nd placer.

If Ricky Morgan(USC), their normal 3rd leg is healthy....it will be a sub 3:00 guaranteed imo. Ran 3:01 with a near 47 leg filling in at Regionals. Plus A&M/UF will be there to push to the end.

so the 3 fastest teams are all in the first heat (qualify 2+2).

the meet's best-ever mark for 2nd is 3:00.57 (Arizona State in '05) and for 3rd 3:00.64 (Baylor in '92).... and that was in the final.

Is it possible we might see one/both of those place marks go in tomorrow's heats?

I wonder if having to go as hard as the teams likely will in the semis will have a negative affect on the final in terms of running under 3:00.00.

one noted coach told us recently that with the current timetable he doesn't see sub-3:00 being particularly easy in the final

Possibly. But that day in between to rest will be crucial.

But its not just the 4x4 heats that worry me. The 400m final is 1:45 before the 4x4, and the 400h are about an hr and 15 min. before the 4x4. Norman/Benjamin will presumably be running in their respective events.

Its not going to be easy, but from what they've shown all year, I think they're fit enough to still perform at a high level.

In the second heat the top three were within 0.01, with second and third differing by 0.00x and third place was not going to qualify because heat 1 already had for faster than the winning time in 2.
