    WOW!
Piperi blasts an American Junior record 22.06/72-4.5 in round 5, then the South African goes a centimeter better to take the gold.

And what a run by Rhonex Kipruto in the 10000. A solo 27:21, with the second half run in 13:24! Only 3 of his rivals managed to avoid being lapped, and the best non-African was nearly 3 minutes behind the winner.

Australian decathlete Ash Maloney is having a great champs:

          10.53 (-0.3) Championship Best & PR
          7.06m
          12.83m (6kg)
          2.10m Championship Best & PR
          46.86s Championship Best & PR

Very solid marks for an 18yo

          Day 1 score of 4319.

He has decent hurdles and PV PRs, but his throws are pretty weak for now. Has any decathlete beyond Curtis Beach run that sort of 400m time as a junior?

            Question for coaches:

If you were the coach of an athlete who was already competing on senior implements (16 lb shot, 2 kg discus, 42 inch hurdles), would you want them competing at a championship where they had to switch back to the junior ones?

Easy one - absolutely yes. Senior athletes often train with under-weight implements or under-sized hurdles. It helps with their speed.

Yeah they just showed the evening session of day 1 in replay in its entirety with hardly any commercials.

His first two fouled LJs were close to 8 meters. Unfortunately he stuttered terribly his 3rd effort, it was a miracle he still managed to get even that 7 m jump

That does make sense, as he was 50cm down on his PR. By the way, I've moved my discussion of his efforts over to the multi-event thread...

His DT didn't look weak. 47+ and second place in that event. Now 373 points ahead after 7 events.

Moloney limping after his clearance at 4.60... Hope it's nothing serious enough to prevent him from finishing.

Not limping any more, but he decided not to take any more vaults. He's 450 points ahead after 8 events, so he should take it even if he's not 100% now.

as requested on the original thread, which was mainly about TV, a new thread for actual competition.
