  • Great depth in the women's 200m!

I'm trying to work out if Schippers just quit or if she's just not in shape. It was a pretty poor run and to see DAS move away from her again in the final 50m shocked me.

DAS is faster than she's ever been so its about how she balances that over the total 200m which I think she can get right in Berlin as Prandini did today after Prandini over cooked the first 150m at the World Cup. They are 100m athletes and can't do what Jackson does as a 400m athlete and just go for it from the gun.

Samuel has improved her 200m by 0.3 this year getting down the kind of times that make finals in majors and she ran the 4x100m earlier in the programme where those ahead of her didn't.

Berlin will be interesting assuming DAS, Schippers, Kambunji and Samuel all double. Nothing to note from the 200m at the German Champs so those could be the fight for the medals.

Schippers gave up in the last 20m, but would have finished 5th at best. The good thing is, losing to a fellow Dutch woman will give her a kick up the backside.

To 18.99 Re her old coach, they have good relations and do train together occasionally, and I have every reason to believe he would take her back, especially now he has Samuels. He didn't even have a proper sprint group before Schippers left the heptathlon, but now he coaches specialists and multieventers. And as I say, lets thank Bennema for getting Samuels PB down. He obviously knows what he is doing.

The problem is the coach wont have the same dafne as in 2015 to work with ...the hepathlon really gave her an advantage over the others ..now she has a bulked dafne with less condition and older as well. And thats if she can go back ...it will be worth the try tho cause coming 6th place is definitly something t be happy about .

She is 26. She is at her physical peak. You seem so down about her... particularly compared to they way you were predicting world domination for a 31 year old, returning from having a child, after one race lol...

Now I am not writing off said world domination, but take the tinted glasses off before analysing the situation.

Not everyone believes in the theories but in terms of training/competition age they're probably about the same with SAFP bursting onto the scene in 2008 and Schippers as a junior multi eventer in 2009. Also SAFP also has the mother boost, though again, not everyone gets it, though lots of women report the additional benefits after coming back.

              • NBCSN will have a 2 hour replay of London starting at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time!
If you have access to that station, it's FREE!!

I'll be watching, as the CBC (Canada) cut their program off after the Women's 200----NOT showing the Women's Mile---by far the best race of the entire meet!
                Can't wait!!

If you know what progression means we will discuss . Shelly ann times have been dropping while schippers times are increasing .Nothing I said was lie but only truth .It wont be the same working with her now compared to 2014 when she was lean and had all the endurance in the world to run a solid 200m ....Like I said its worth the try cause the time keeps going by and she keeps running mediocre times and bulking up ....She should try to run 400m instead of the 100m which is not helping her at the moment ..I never said she can not win
                  ..altho It seems difficult ,

                  • I don't know much about Reider's training with Schippers but assuming she's not doing much, if any, multis specific training anymore I have to wonder how much she was able to develop/benefit as a sprinter even with that pent./hept. program. That is, maybe she'd be better off to again train as a multi event (at least to some degree) athlete even if it was primarily to be a sprinter.

                    • The biggest difference was 1) the amount of weight training 2) focus on top end speed, less reps at higher intensity, rather than longer runs at lower tempo 3) no cross training.

Number 1) and 2) I see as her biggest issues. 1) meant she has put too much weight on, and it doesn't all look like muscle. She supposedly did more of 2) this year than last. But I think her weight just means she cannot do it effectively. I think 3) helps her enjoy her training but hasn't made a difference.

Or a simple theory is that her peak time is behind her

Probably way too simple, she's only 26. Go back to doing what worked when things were better, that's simply the logical thing to do. Oh and re: what Gabriella mentioned about weightlifting being counterproductive, I know that from experience. Bulk up too much and slow down drastically.

Maybe you should coach her back to 10.8/21.6?

Maybe now she has enjoyed Nike sponsorship €€€ and heightened celebrity/earnings in Europe over the last 3 years she may be content with her lifestyle and not willing to push herself?

                            • Gabrielle Thomas basically stood up and did high knees in place at the start. Will likely be at 22.0x sooner than later.

Laura Roesler also got another seasons best here.

Centro's win came from a tactical race that we see all the effin time at major championships. Once the field enters that first back-straight, all the contendahs are more than happy to jog, KNOWING that each and every one of them has trained expressly for a huge kick-finish. But . . . only one guy has the FASTEST finish, and in 2016 it was Mr. Centro. And it can certainly happen again. Unless you are Filbert Bayi, you go with the flow and takes yer chances.
