The number$ don't support it - and that is (literally) the bottom line.

Broadcasts can be manipulated - see field events - or they can be placed on alternative channels. Run the longer distance events earlier or later in the day, possibly a separate day with a second admission or as a freebie - buy one event get the second free.

      Imagination can defeat narrow-thinking capitalists.

TV can demand certain events to be part of their two hours broadcasting.
Additional races/events can take place before the start or end of 2 hours broadcast.
I watch Euro and US TV and always other live events cut into T&F (live or tape delay) broadcasts.

        Personal experience:
I taught a 3-week specialty course in July this year. At one point I asked my students what are their favorite TV stations and radio stations. All twenty students said they do not watch anything on TV. Five said they listen to radio only when they drive their cars. TV is out people!

I don't know the criteria, but why wouldn't she qualify for Zurich?

She hasn't accrued any Diamond League points in the 5000m.

I appreciate James Kirby's article (on the home page here) on Houlihan's AR performance, and news related to her, BTC, etc.

One other question, for anyone, re Houlihan's performance: Does anyone have splits? Afaik, the meet results did not include those details. Thanks in advance to anyone for contributing these.

There's only a few of those across all events, and they normally go to home-country athletes. Maybe if a huge global star doesn't qualify and wants to be included, they'd have a chance, but Houlihan isn't remotely in that category.

Yes, but the corpse still walks. I get my goggle-box fix via an Internet connection, partly because cable and dish companies seem to be awful, and wouldn't you know it, so are the interwebtubethingee software packages. Not to mention that I couldn't buy an Olympics-only package (my solution to that will remain hidden to protect the guilty). Track and field on the box will adapt or die; give us more, say I, not shorter programs.

You're kidding, I assume. Any sentient being watching wDist this year knows what Houlihan can do.

Note from the H-Z story on the front page that Houlihan is planning on running the 1500 in Brussels.

Good interview w Houlihan that describes in part her preparation for the 5km record attempt, and also describes the approach Schumacher has taken with her in the BTC group.

Has anyone found a full video of this race?
