Unless Mayer runs up a score of 9200 or more, Kipchoge's WR would be better!

Not sure how you came up with the 9200. The decathlon WR is the tougher one to beat IMO.

I just threw up a number that SOUNDED as good as what Kipchoge did.
Aren't there tables that tell what would be equal to a 2:01:39----or vice versa, whether 2:01:39 is akin to 9200 in the Dec?

The women's race today was the first ever with 3 athletes under 2:19. Thus Tiru set a best ever for 3rd place with her 2:18:55.

Also, Edna Kiplagat's 2:21 makes her the oldest sub-2:22 woman in history.
              She's 38!

                According to this table: http://www.ekjl.ee/content/editor/fi...utdoor2017.pdf
                2:01:39 is 1316pts, 9202 is 1314pts. For what it's worth.

Sifan Hassan in a half marathon? They had a women's half marathon in Berlin today? I can't find any information about that race.

                    It was in Copenhagen.

Hassan moves to no. 8 on the all-time list, just 24 secs off the WR. Fastest non-Kenyan ever.

Kipchoge’s time works out to 4:38.4 per mile.

Wow....that 2:00:25 definitely helped his confidence....

                        One of biggest improvements ever.

Thank you for the running commentary, Alan! 2:01:39 ... What an athlete!!!

Will two superb races make Kipchoge AOY? Khannouchi only ran twice, with a WR, in 2002, and ended up #2. But El Guerrouj had a superb year also. I don't know if anyone can bump Kipchoge from becoming the first ever marathoner-only to get AOY.

It turns out they did run Berlin Marathon on right day. Yes it is an NFL Sunday but no US Open tennis or Fed Ex/Ryder cup golf or any other big thing. So Monday sports papers may indeed mention this WR and - my heart be still - even make it onto the front page !! (Of sports not main section not to get too carried away.)

countless times.... even the number of days with 3 WRs is probably very tough to enumerate

That was one of the best things ever. I actually cried at the end. Is Kipchoge the greatest distance runner ever, from the aspect of all-round versatility?
