I suspect Lyles' 10m splits would be very close with King Carl's 9.86 WR Tokyo '91.

Mentioned in the vid comments that Lewis' reaction was 0.14, which was also Lyles' today.

but later in that story he said this, leaving the door wide open for a double:

“If something happens and we are doing really well and training has proven that I can handle six rounds (three each in the 100 and 200m), then maybe we will,” Lyles said.>>

He doesn't progress from 60 - 100. He doesn't seem to be able to benefit from his acceleration at all. He gets lower instead of taller towards the end. His last 30 is a almost flat footed and he has no patience on the ground.
A shame. He had the same issue last year.

I agree....he just couldn't quite hold it together.

Did he feel the pressure or was it conditioning?

We know that no one is getting faster in the last 30m, but I'd love to see the 10m splits from this race, cuz it sure looked like Lyles did not decelerate at all. CC, on the other hand, did look too tight at the end.

I would like to see that as well. I'm getting to think that judging Lyles' block clearance and resulting acceleration phase is perhaps better than might appear.

Coleman could be hitting these phases near to what his indoor WR times were. However, I agree with your assessment of Lyles last 30m or so. Sustainability loss might be quite low.

Lyles finish was just awesome. It really did look like it was all over until those last meters. The times were also great for so early in the season.
I was also impressed by Prescod from
                    a GB perspective.

What's going on with Elaine Thompson? The expectation on her is high, but she just looked very rusty. We'll get a better picture after a couple of more races I guess, but if she were in form you'd have expected her to win here. It's a long, long way until Doha though.

Hasan was also disappointing. Some decent field events though, Huihui nearly reaching 67 in the wJT and Hoffmann throwing over 87 in the mJT. Ealey backed up her recent SP PB with another good 19.5+.

Hobbs is good. Very good. She had 7 sub-11 races last year and won the NCAA/USATF double.

That was a heck of a m100 and we can count on years of this going forward.

Just what I was thinking about Benjamin and McLaughlin.
I expected 50-flatish from SM and low 47 from RB, but that's on me, not them.
Doha is still 4+ MONTHS away.

Lyles looks capable of 9.6x when he gets that first 60 together.

I missed that - I was so focused on Lyles' finish!
