  • Interesting Thought Experiment!

If we were to take the best performance of each nation in each decathlon event and gave points as such which nation would have the best points total? Probably the U.S. right but what would be the top ten as well?

If I calculated right the U.S. has 12,260 points.

Glad to see someone already did it. Yeah a number of them need updating. I had Lagat's 3:27.40 for the 1500m and Duplantis' 6.05 for the PV which added 40 points to the USA total.

I also used the indoor LJ of Bayer for the German record but got 12,046 because I think the HJ record is 2.37 not 2.42m.

Italy could also be adjusted given what Tortu has done and will probably do this season. But would not put them past SWE given what Duplantis has done in the PV.

      Surely there is more.

If you take Bayer's indoor jump you also have to take Thränhard's 2,42 indoor record
