    BREAKING NEWS!

The marathons and 50km race walks may have to be cancelled (postponed?) due to excessive heat - https://twitter.com/francetvsport/st...23160388886529

Last night at 8pm it was 48°C in Doha!!

The local organisers will decide 1 hour before the women's marathon and 2 hour before the 50km Race Walk whether the races will go ahead.

I'd say that if it's that hot it wouldn't be safe to hold the 20km Race Walks either.

Would they consider bringing them into the stadium? (A zillion laps, but no cases of heat-exhaustion)

After hearing this news Yohann Diniz gave an interview and suggested they should do that.

My guess is that this won't be a problem at the 2021 WC . . .

According to Accuweather, here are the temperatures expected for tonight:
            00:00 89
            01:00 88
            02:00 88
            03:00 87 (86 is 30 C, BTW, so 31-32)

For Sunday the 29th, the predicted high is 106 (41+), other days of the WCs more like 99-102.
            Cheers,

As for the weather....here is the forecast from Underground Weather....it will only feel like 118....with the high dew points even at the coolest part of the day it will still feel like over 100F....how you can contest the walks and the marathon without killing half the fields will be a challenge....

I think that was about factoring in the dew point.....if you live in California you don't think about it.....but in places like Chicago it is important to factor it in. A dew point of 70 is very uncomfortable and one of 80 can be deadly....when they say it feels like 120 they mean it.... this isn't the dry desert where temperatures plunge during the night.

That would be a logistical nightmare, even with chip technology to take care of the timing. MAYBE if they split men and women into different races, but imagine 70-odd people with time differentials a good hour apart in terms of performance and what that would mean for judging.

With chips it should actually be pretty easy. The question is whether they could do it on such a short notice.

But that's the reason the marathon and walks were scheduled in the middle od the night. It will still be some 30 degrees C, but with no sunshine and low humidity, everyone should be able to survive.
