Yes, but their are different ways to run them in terms of the mix of moisture and temperature. Also, even though it does, by necessitate lowering the humidity level, it does not answer my question which is what are the temps and dew points going to be in the stadium during distance races and during other races.

Latest version linked below. We know have 15 predicters.

Please check your predictions in the table and post any corrections/additions in this thread.

Depending on time, I will try and score predictions with IAAF points, so we can track scores as we go.

        w20k I meant 1:30, not 1:20.

Thanks for doing this! Very cool.

edit: wow, as a group, there are some high expectations!

Changed from your original 1:23 to 1:33.

If you actually wanted a round 1:30, let me know otherwise 1:33 will be in next update.

This seems to say that the temps in the stadium will be pretty moderate, not pushed to get down to 80:

It has been impossible to walk anywhere outdoors in Qatar this week without the body breaking into a fevered sweat in the 100F heat with 80% humidity. But at the new Al Janoub Stadium, the world’s first purpose-built air conditioned football ground, it was a pleasant 70F in the stands and on the pitch, even at the hottest point of the day.

That data is for the Al Janoub stadium which is not the Khalifa International Stadium where the WC are being held.

Although probably the same technology, there's no guarantee that the different stadium configurations will achieve the same result. The likely difference between an empty stadium (WC) and a full one (WCup), could also be significant.

Also, I don't think the article specified at what outside temperature it could achieve the conditioned temp. Any engineer will tell you that the performance curve by temperature is critical.

I thinke the -10C from outside you've used previously is still the best rule of thumb. It will be interesting to see the actual results.

He had 1:23 for men and 1:20 for women, the latter was supposed to be 1:30, while the 1:23 was correct.

                  OK, got it.

                  Thanks, LopenUupunut!

It's 01:00 here and I spent all day organising IAAF points data into something useable so I can score total results.

I need some sleep, so I won't post new updates for 8+ hours.

I'll try and synchronise my sleep by the first final.

OK, so I've made a rankings table based on the average number of IAAF points per event rather than just total points.

This is required to address the different numbers of predictions made by people, otherwise those with the fewest predictions would have an inherent advantage if I just used total points.

One problem is that the Mixed4x400 does not have IAAF points, at least as far as I know, so I've excluded that event from the overall results.

I will still do that event separately, especially as this was Powell's only prediction.

I've left the WC Record in the table as this will be a guide to the quality of the overall competition.

Here are the rankings after Day 1:

Rank Name PtsAvg PointsTotal Completed Predicted

Who has made the best and worst predictions so far?

This table shows the best and worst predictions for both Male and Female events as well as across all events.

reggaeirie1234 currently holds the record with only 2 points off the W10 result. He predicted 30:20.00 (1229pts) while the winner ran 30:17.62 (1231pts).
