Good start for Americans Ewen and Carter in qualifying -- Ewen reasonably close to her recent PR with 19.21 on her first throw and leading in the early going. That's well over 18.40 standard, so she can call it a day. Carter 18.85 on her 1st, her furthest since she won London bronze in '17.

Ealey 17.90 on her first, so may need a better one to secure top 12. For the favorite Gong, 18.96 on her first.

Roos is out. Ealey out of the top 12 with one attempt to go.

Ealey is no longer in the top 12 after a foul on her 2nd throw.

Yikes. She's had such a great year. Really rooting for an 18.40 or better on that final heave.

Great PB of 18.61 for Sophie McKinna. Another event where GB rarely gets a finalist.

              Update - first since 1983!

Guba just barely makes it in 12th place with 18.04. Ealey and Crew are the only other lower-case qualifiers.

Only one mark (18.05) that is not over or close to the Q (18.40)

                      Is something wrong with Ealey!
                      Looks out of sorts!

Wow ... and all three have a shot at a medal. Carter, while well off her peak career form, seems to be getting some of it back. Ealey's season as a whole has made her a medal contender and Ewen has exploded late this summer.

She's just not the most consistent of putters, even compared to other spinners.

Was it a long Putt though?

Not as far as this 69-footer!
