  • 2019 Berlin Marathon [Bekele 2:01.41!]

Is anyone watching? Legese floored the pedal at 30K with Bekele falling back. They're closing in on 40K and Bekele is stalking Legese, with the WR in sight!

Three-time winner Gladys Cherono dropped out at 33K. The women are going at just under 2:23 pace.

Bekele trying to hold sub-2:02 pace after 40K. 11 seconds behind WR pace. And he's checking his watch. :-)

Now the big question: Will they both get it on in Tokyo? :-)

If you had to ask me, I'd say Kipchoge could have a problem. Bekele was off the pace and done. Legese put his foot on the pedal, but he cracked. And the Bekele who once ran 13:52+12:57 on the track showed up, scaring a WR that no one was supposed to come thisclose to.

If Bekele runs like that in Tokyo, it could be a very long final 10K for Kipchoge.

#6 USA performer (#9 performance). Looks like she split 1:11:17, 1:10:59.

In the big news, I thought KB's career was pretty much over, and certainly didn't think this would ever happen.

And in other news, perusing results:

Guojian Dong CHN 2:08:28 (3+ minute PB), now #2 on CHN a-t list. (Only the 4th @ sub-2:10 on that a-t list.)

This is almost an optical illusion; he’s lost so much weight, it looks like his current head on a 55 year old Kenenisa’s body. Different shape altogether & lost 7kg I’ve heard?
