    • If anybody is interested, I created a table of the Japanese runners, previous PBs and how much they improved (not all did) and also calculated the age of their PBs.

      • I noticed a few athletes that improved their PB back in December, then again in February, reducing the scale of their apparent improvement. I didn't document them all, but if anybody is interested just look up the WA profiles for those with a PB age of less than a year. For one example, here is Yuta KOYAMA:

        Year SB Location Date
        2021 2:08:46 Otsu (JPN) 28 FEB 2021
        2020 2:16:27 Fukuoka (JPN) 06 DEC 2020
        2019 2:25:19 Nagano (JPN) 21 APR 2019
        2018 2:23:10 Nagano (JPN) 15 APR 2018
        2017 2:25:01 Nagano (JPN) 16 APR 2017
        2016 2:25:39 Nagano (JPN) 17 APR 2016
        2015 2:23:03 Nagano (JPN) 19 APR 2015

        • Tim Hutchings tweet regards the Potter 14:41 road 5K:

          ยท
          10h
PBs as she stood at the start last night: Tr 15:28.32 & Rd 15:24. Time to act on adjustment of Records & Rankings to accommodate the performances resulting from this tech, is NOW. No slight on the athletes. Just a simple acknowledgement of what is unfolding before our eyes.

          • Is Hutchings implying some dual lists...the silliness will never end...the shoes are here, get over it...

            More whining from former athletes....

            Comment

            • Besides to say it is only the shoes implies an aid of 3 seconds a 400...which is absurd.

I've met Hutchings several times and he is very pleasant...but this shoe thing seems to be a very British thing...

              • "he World marathon champion Chepngetich shaved 29 seconds off the previous World record to win N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon with an impressive time of 1:04:02
                https://www.watchathletics.com/article/11371/ruth-chepngetich-smashes-world-half-marathon-record-in-istanbul/"

This means she can challenge 29 minutes barrier on the road or on the track.

List of possible new WR by the end of season
                Men 800m about 1:40, 1500m about 3:25-24, Mile 3:40-42, steeple 7:40!, 5000m 12:28, 10000 about 26:00,
2 mile and 2000m (no change this Olympic year) but 3000m get a good scare.

                Women:
800m record will get scared but not broken.
1500m about 3:48, 5000 sub 14 min, and 10000 sub 29. Steeple record is hard but 8:40 is possibility.
3000m maybe 8 flat. 2000m if run will be sub 5:20.
2M record could be safe because it is Olympic year
