  • Gabe vs. Webb

Lots of trashing of two guys who just a couple of years ago appeared to be the future of U.S. miling.

What kind of odds will you give me that BOTH make the team for Athens?

I say they're the only guys who can make that nasty-nasty 3:34.90 A-qualifier. (other than Krumm, who I predict will run just the 800)

    LOL!

I'll give you great odds that NEITHER of them make it!

But sadly, you may be right about that 3:34.90 and The Krumm. I'm already envisioning a slow-paced OT final won in 3:39 and the nation's best milers spend all summer beating themselves in the ground in a vein attempt to earn their A standard.

      Re: Gabe vs. Webb

I'm a big fan of both Webb and Gabe, but I'd pick Gabe over Webb for the 2000 team. That even factors in the possibility that Gabe never makes it back from South America!

Yes, unfortunately, perhaps more important than who wins the Trials will be who gets the qualifier. Lunn might be able to do it this summer. Berryhill and Lassiter have a chance. Krum will run the 800 in Athens, I believe.

Yeah, I would too. But what about the 2004 team?

          Re: Gabe vs. Webb

reminds me of the '96 Trials when Dennis Mitchell, the Mean Green Machine, was interviewed on the in-stadium mic after his win. He declared, "I'm Barcelona bound!"

I hope Dan's mistake can be explained by his getting the same beer and sex diet the Machine claimed to indulge in. ;-)

These guys are both going to the Olympics and will get the gold and silver medals. Not sure what order they'll finish in, though.

I think so, too. And the Bionic Bigfoot will win bronze.

                Re: Robison fastest (but best?)

Grant Robison already has the new "A" standard. He ran a 3:35.70 1500 in Beligum this summer. Lunn and Berryhill are very close to the new "A" standard. If they don't the new standard Robison is the king of the US mile.

I agree that Krummenacker will run the 800meters. Considering he is world indoor champ at 800 meters it makes sense for him to run the 800 at the trials. Still it is sad to see that 3:31 speed go to waste.

I am not saying Robison is neccesarily the best US 1500 meter runner, but he is the fastest. There is a difference. It is not going to be easy beating Lunn in a slow tactical race at the trials. Remember, what happened to Krummenacker when he raced against Lunn this summer.

Krummenacker and Robison where the only US 3:35 1500 meters runners this year.

No way man. Nobody can beat Gabe and Webb.

What a "joy" and a "delight" it is to see these "neglected" subjects (Messrs. Gabe and Webb, or, for short "Wabe" ["Gebb" confuses us with that lesser talent]) getting the blather-time they so "richly" deserve. JUST SAY NO NO NO NO and NO again! Who can drive a stake through the heart of this beast?

I think T&FN should add a no more gabe or webb rule to the newcomers guidelines...

Put this horse manure on its own board. Thus, we'd have the following to choose from: "Current Events," "Historical," "The THG Crisis," and "Pointless Blathering by Hopelessly Fixated Idiots."
