  • PERMANENT NCAA CHAMPS SITE

HEY, I HOPE THE RUMOR I HEARD ABOUT A PERMANENT SITE FOR THE NCAA'S IS JUST THAT. I AM HERE IN SAN ANTONIO AND DON'T LOOK FORWARD TO GOING TO EUGENE OR BUFFALO EVERY YEAR. I WOULD RATHER HAVE THE SITE VARIED EACH YEAR. HOWEVER, IF IT IS HELD IN EITHER AUSTIN OR HOUSTON OR BATON ROUGE, I WILL GO ALONG WITH THAT. TOO MANY PEOPLE WILL BE UPSET IF IT GETS A PERMANENT LOCATION. IF IT DOES, THEN KANSAS CITY IS THE MOST CENTRAL SPOT FOR ALL CONCERNED.

You can scratch that idea. I don't know of a decent track facility in KC. I'd think Drake or Lawrence would be the nearest possibilities. The Big 12 Champs are held in Columbia (Missouri) every other year, but I don't think it seats enough for NCAAs.

sorry about the caps but i meant no disrespect. i just don't know how to go from upper to lower case and get anything typed in less than five hours. i got used to all caps using an mc-88.

From what I've heard, the 3-meet deal is a go. It's between Sacto, Eugene and Carson (Home Depot Center).

it's "permanent" in that they're going to experiment with an initial contract of something like 3 years, see how it plays out.

I give up; what's an MC-88? A Google search turns up a light meter as the first option; can't imagine you keystroking on one of those too much. Sounds more like something the NRA doesn't want banned.

That's how it should be set up. Not sure if I want to see a truly permanent site, I like that NCAAs alternates locations. However, it should stay in a place for 3-5 years to build up a spectator base.

Isn't Austin bidding for it as well? Texans?

                      Re: PERMANENT NCAA CHAMPS SITE

For the sake of the fans, one can only hope that Sacramento has no chance of getting this meet again, much less three more times. There isn't a more uncomfortable stadium in the country and the signt lines are absolutely terrible. If the NCAA knows what it is doing (and they frequently show that they do not), they will choose Eugene if they put it anywhere on a semi-permanent basis.

An MC-88 is an old Royal typewriter that only had caps. No lower case. Used in the military prior to computers. Some guys told their non-military friends that they flew MC-88s when all they did was type. (That was many moons ago.)Oh well...
DOES anyone know whatever happened to Obea Moore?

Sacramento Bee article on its bid to be the semi-permanent site. Seems like it has a shot. Attendance figures thus far, based on newspaper reports:

                            Day 1- 5,500e
                            Day 2 - 7,100e
                            Day 3 - 8,900e

Sacramento is unique, but when was the last time NCAAs had these crowds? Not even Eugene '01 matched it. I'd rather see it in Sacramento than in Los Angeles metro. The meet would get lost in Tinseltown, way too much stuff to do there. Eugene could work, except its weather is the iffiest of the bunch & flight connections suck.
