Just curious if anybody out there has any ideas (outside of regionals) to improve team competition at the college level.
One suggestion I heard was to encourage schools to have more well rounded programs by requiring a minimum of 2 scholarships be allocated each year for each of the categories: sprints/hurdles, distances, throws, jumps. It would spread a bit of the wealth around and prevent schools with depth in only a couple events from winning team titles.
Also, what about mandating that all meets are scored? This is easy and cheap (free). This could help improve overall team strength. I don't think many coaches would want to finish in the bottom half of team standings in 7-8 meets every season because they don't have depth outside of 3-5 events.
