  • What will Stacy do?

Her PV career has been a storied and wonderful experience, first American* over 15', Olympic champ, Olympic record holder and a true pioneer of the sport. *-thanks Kurt.

Isinbayeva is 23, attractive, outgoing and is the future of ladies PV and the obvious "heir apparent" to Stacy. She could be the first over 5.18m (17-0).

At age 33 do you think Stacy will stay with it to work on becoming America's first 16 footer or is it time to mount the pole over the fireplace?

My vote: Get to 4.88m then retire.

    What do you think?

Stacy was not the first of 15'. Emma George (AUS) was the first over in 1998.

Are you aware of any "world class" 37 year old pole vaulters?

Stacy needs to lose 10 pounds and dedicate herself to jumping 5 meters, but at age 33 plus WHY ? Unless it's a money issue, time to retire, have children, etc. What a great asset she's been both as a pioneer and as a champion.

Jeff Hartwig turns 37 in about a month. He is inconsistant, but has showed he can still put up great marks.

Her competitiveness will keep her in the sport a while longer. Once she sees a dropoff in the PV, she may give the multis a shot. Where are we now in the IAAF's ruminations re: Deacthlon vs. Hep?
Until the day she hangs up the spikes, she is my FAVORITE athlete!

                    a. that's MUSCLE, buddy!
                    b. don't go there!

I did sorta thought the same thing at the beginning of the year - thinking she'd work it off before the OT, but you have to admit you can see the abs. Since women have an extra layer of sub-cutaneous fat (I'm working off 10th grade biology here), if you can count the abs, they have a nice low bodyfat percentage. She looks absolutely fine to me. She did jump an AR 15'10 this year!

Well the IAAF carries the women's decathlon on it's yearly outdoor list, so maybe that's a sign.

And exactly how long has women's PV been around for? What on earth are you talking about. There's a first for everything.

She has a biological clock to consider, you and I do not, at least one we would admit to. Gotta be a factor in her decision. I would guess she will go til she gets 4.88 and then hang em up. She could get 4.88 this year.

Did anyone else make the connection that both Pappas and Dragila recently left the coaches that got them to the top and they both were mentally unprepared for the Olympics. Perhaps there is a lesson there.

Good point. Tiger Woods did the same thing this year and has been taking a real (relative of course) beating.
