Is anyone else as annoyed as I am about Carol Lewis' commentating? She could be speaking about a 1500m run and throw in "well, when I was long jumping..." Did anyone see, I think after Alyson Felix made the team, she felt it necessary to throw in, because we haven't heard it enough, that she was 16 when she made the olympic team in 1980. She couldn't praise anyone without bringing up her accomplishments.

Yes, she is annoying. If she was accurate, I could maybe accept the annoyances. During the Pre Classic telecast, she said Alan Webb had broken the WORLD high school mile record. No such thing. Oh, and "the Armory track is a flat track" comment during the Millrose Games telecast. Hello? She broadcast from Armory track at last year's USA Indoor Champs. Was she blind to the banked track?
Rare positives: I did like it when Lewis called out Mo Greene for not running the 200. The "I made the Olympic team at age 16" after Felix's Worlds berth didn't really bother me, since it was within the context of a youngster heading off to a major champs. If anyone can comment on that issue, it's her.

Re: Carol Lewis
Another thing. I HATE when she sticks the microphone up in someone's face when they're injured. She did it to Ato Boldon during the Pre Classic, after his hammy pull, sitting down with him on the track. She did to Larry Wade this past weekend. Guy is flat on his back, clearly in pain, & getting medical treatment. Does Lewis wait until after his treatment to talk to him (or his coach), & then give us an update? Oh no...No wonder Wade didn't respond when Lewis ended the interview with a congrats comment, looking at her crazy (perhaps he should've not left her hanging like that, if only because of the viewers, but I understand why).
Lewis was also too pushy during the Penn Relays telecast. Bev Kearney was getting hugs from her Texas 4x4 athletes, & Lewis just BARGES up in between them. Yes, it followed the commentary re: Kearney's car accident rehabilitation so it made sense to interview them. But geez!

Re: Carol Lewis
This is why I like reading this site rather than the Letsrun web message board. The people on this board get all worked up if an athlete is accused of performance drugs, but you all love to attack a persons personality,or character or looks.... Lets face it, no one here cares about Track, your just waiting for a thread to call someone an asshole, bitch, sick moron...take your pick.

He sings, but he can't sing. Don't you remember the time he made a complete mess of your national anthem and Sir Charles et al were in hysterics? You should take a look at his website, it's (I assume) hilarious.
Wade cramped up at the end of the race and was prostrate on the track when Princess Carol tryed interviewing him. He totally ignored her after a few questions.

Huh? This is your biggest complaint about Carol Lewis' broadcasting? Then throw a party and invite all your friends!! Carol is intelligent, articulate and knows her sport. I don't miss OJ or many other past commentators one bit. Sounds like you may have been having just a bit of a bad day or something.

Re: Carol Lewis
The thing I really do not like about her is that she seems to know nothing and doens't appear to have spent any time trying to learn or study the sport. Maybe I'm the only one, but I like Dwight Stones. He was a high jumper, but can speak articulately about any trrack event, even the distances. Okay, he's not the person you would like commenting about distance races, but he certainly knows more than Rawson or Lewis.
From my perspective, there's not much to choose from and Dwight does okay. I just can't wait to hear Rawson and lewis for the worlds. Another reason to be pissed that you can't get the BBC or Canadian television.Joe Lanzalotto

Re: Carol Lewis
Yes, Carol is pretty bad but I am not too impressed with Dwight Stones either. I know he is one of the world's leading H.J. experts but you would never know it from the telecasts. He almost never says anything really insightful. Either he is not allowed or he just does not have time. It is 2 quick jumps and then back to Diving which always is opposite T&F during the Olympics. The Diving commentators can show about 10 dives in a row from all angles and they can be as technical as they like. Dwight is also pretty predictable about what he says about L.J. It is always: "Oops he looked at the board, a cardinal sin in the Long Jump". He also should learn that Lars Riedel is not a former East German.
The Canadian telecasts are not as good as they were. They do the same "up close and personal" as the Americans + they have a guy who absolutely has it in for Gail Devers. The woman can not clear one hurdle without this guy complaining about her poor technique. It is as if the 3 steps between has nothing to do with hurdles technique.
