Did Collonville REALLY throw 58m+ in the JT??! If so, was it the same weight javelin used in the hept?

Her previous PB was 49.14m from Athens. Something's up - surely a seasoned heptathlete like Collonville can't improve by 9m in one competition??

Hmm... weird. Looks like they have the results mixed up. On the main women's deca results page, it has Collonville with the 58m throw. But click on the javelin icon, and it then lists the JT results in order, with Spotakova credited with the 58m throw (which makes sense, as her PB is 60m+)

Looks like Clay was doing OK up until the HJ. He jumped 1.86m (!!!!), setting him back 200 points or so. He's got a tough 2nd day ahead of him now.

            COLLONVILLE Marie FRA 12.48
            (0,4)[862] 34.69
            [552] 3.50
            [761] 47.19
            [806] 56.15
            [861] 3842

Looks like 47,19 Jon. I am very excited by this move to the 10-eventer. My Xmas wish list is decathlon and a full 110 metre race for women with 36" barriers. Still some hurdles to overcome b4 that happens, primarily male idiots who think the women are too short and weak.

Clay's got his act together - won the hurdles and the DT (14.05 and 50.72m) and is now in 2nd place; Karpov leading. Sebrle has moved down to 4th after two mediocre performances (14.69 and 43.75m). McMullen is currently in 3rd.

Mel, count me in with those idiots. 110 yes, weak they are not, but shorter than the males they sure are. You don't see too many male hurdlers under 175 (5'9'' for the metrically challenged), while there are very few females competing in the hurdles at that height.

A relatively slow 1500m to end the day. Sebrle's 4:51 was enough to give him the overall win with a score of 8217. Clay finished last in the 1500m, but again it was enough to maintain his 2nd place position (8122 overall). Karpov remained in 3rd place, scoring 8099 while Claston Bernard ended the weekend with 8067.

That's Karpov's 3rd straight 3rd. He must be tired of seeing Seberle's heinie. Perhaps he is the Beijing favorite though.

Yeah 90% of the men's record. Something's gotta give. [I do realize they are not exactly identical events]

Especially comparing it with female's decathlon, Naumkina 4:59 and Collonvillé 5:06!

About 110mH, I doubt Collonvillé's 1.63 height will help her to JUMP the men's hurdles... She has a 1.94 High Jump PB, which is one of the all-time best differencial.

No, I will not count you in with the idiots.

<My Xmas wish list is decathlon and a full 110 metre race for women with 36" barriers. Still some hurdles to overcome b4 that happens, PRIMARILY [though not exclusively] male idiots who think the women are too short and weak>

                              [you must be so flattered:~]

<110 yes, weak they are not, but shorter than the males they sure are. You don't see too many male hurdlers under 175 (5'9'' for the metrically challenged), while there are very few females competing in the hurdles at that height.>

You're right, in fact I don't think there are any females trying to springboard their way over 5'9" hurdles. Now there's an event [for American Gladiat'er] - how would they fit all those HJ pits into the race? ;-)

Average male height is ~5-9, for females ~5-4.
The men run hurdles that are 9" higher.

Women were not allowed to run anything longer than 200 metres until Rome 1960 [in an Olympics]. The males in charge of the entertainment couldn't bear the thought of seeing such delicate flowers, wilting in the heats of a 1500.

Why were women not allowed to compete in the triple jump until recently? What common misconception [pun] once prevailed regarding the possible impact on females from TJ-ing?

Theorize until the cow comes home. The IAAF can send some observers to watch races [like they did when the 400h was being pondered as an additional event] - experimental observation is needed.
