  • Olympic Trials 2004

With Potter, Harris, and Steele all running leading times in the world this year (obviously outside of Tyree) don't you think it's a good move to red shirt those guys next year to keep them fresh for the Olympic Trials. It's obvious that they could really make a push and make the team. It was unfortunate that they didn't exactly get a fair deal at the US championships. Even though the trials are in July, it leaves the boys time to rest, however, it also leaves the boys time to get stagnet. What do you think?

Nothing would be preventing them from racing in Europe prior to the trials. Apparently Harris won't have to worry about eligibility or the collegiate season anymore, anyway.

Given their stage of development, I say they have a better chance of making the team if they don't redshirt. They still need to hone their skills; far better to do that in hot crucible of NCAA competition than having almost no races of significance before the OT. Seems clear to me that the whole Minnesota team thing is a huge part of their success. Why not kick ass at the collegiate level then have a good month of R&R before going into Sacto feeling like a winner?
