"Pat Connolly listened. And when the two were done talking, Stember felt the uncertainty vanish, replaced by an energy that could mean only one thing.

    There's more running to do."

Speaking of Connolly, she is no longer coaching Allyson Felix after she (Connolly) had a dispute with Renaldo Nehemiah, Allyson's agent.

To be competitive with the world's best Stember needs to shave off 4 seconds from his 2004 1500 times.

I'm glad to hear he will give it another shot with different training. My much blasted criticism of him and Lunn following the OTs was that the training was too typical of NCAA type racing. He needed to think and train differently in order to race differently. I'm very glad to hear he will be doing this. I hope Lunn will pursue a similar course.

I've watched Stember since he was a soph in hs. The kid has talent. He still has some time to see if new training will shake things up. I think it might.

I don't disagree that Stember needs to change his training. But do you think working with a sprint coach is the way to go? I don't. He needs to go back to what he was doing in 2000.

Good point. I don't know what kind of training they have in mind. I would rather see him look to someone who has been there or has experience getting others there. But, doing something different is much better than doing the same old, same old. Why, if making a change, wouldn't you seek someone who you can have total confidence in?

                Re: Stember stuff

It seems funny that people think that the same training that worked for SteveH 3:31 and RichK 1:43 is so off track and should be changed. Do we know if both Jason and Mike bought into the program 100% or did they want to add things in the program that they had success with from their past programs ( with Jeff and Vin)? Unless we ask both of them I guess we will never really know. I have raced and trained with both these guys and I know that they give 100% and want nothing more than to run as fast as possible. There are so many different ways to skin a cat, but the one thing that you do need is belief in what you are doing. Look what happened when Webb went back to Scott...3:32. As Spivey has been quoted as saying, the 5 inches above your shoulders is all the difference. Good luck Mike

                  I agree. Speed is relative.
