Any word on the WC standards for Helsinki? Are they posted anywhere yet?

    Thanks in advance.

They'll pretty much be what the Olympic standards were & should be on the IAAF site. I believe GH has posted them in at least one edition of T&FN.

No, we've never posted, and I'm surprised to find that nowhere can I lay my hands on a set. They've never been in the IAAF Newsletter, where they usually appear and I don't find them on either the IAAF or the Helsinki site in a quick perusal. It may well be that the IAAF is devising a whole new set for the next Olympiad and they haven't been released yet.

Are these standards ever lowered if there is an off year in a certain event? The A standards seem rediculously tough in some events.

Something absurd to assure they have no finalists in any event and further erode any chance at developing elite athletes for 2008.

And, more importantly, what/when/where will the Canadian qualifying meets be?

                  Re: WC Qualifying Standards

                  Why thanks for asking Jon!

The Canadian Senior Championships are July 15-17th in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
We had them here in Victoria for 2 years in a row. The Olympic Trials were great.

The standards will be Iaaf standards times two.

                      Re: WC Qualifying Standards

I have from decent sources that the standards will be presented/amended/approved at the next IAAF Council meeting (December). May well be that what RF has listed are the marks as proposed, but I can state pretty definitively that nothing is graved in stone yet.

And there is still no listing for the women's steeple. I guess we will just have to wait and see. I am assuming it won't be faster than 9:29 but still curious as to what it will take.

Athletes and coaches want to know what the qualifying standard (time) will be for entering the women's 3000-meter steeplechase in the 2005 World Championships at Helsinki next August. Denmark's Thomas Christensen has written in the IAAF Forum that "The entry standards for Helsinki will be decided/approved at the IAAF Council Meeting in Helsinki, 4-5 December 2004."

9:29 is a lock: wouldn't surprise me if they went with an A standard close to 10:00 (based on the men's number)

                              Kevin,
Do you want the standard for 6 or 7 water jumps?

                              Just kidding bud
