I'm dying to hear his rationale - bet it's 'family' related, which it never is. I'm still a big fan of his.

Gee, Garry Hill, guess it was more than a message board rumor after all...

Where did i say it was only a rumor? I merely passed on an encounter between me and Vin and how (as I noted in the other thread) he reacted to the "news."

Oh, be honest Mr. Hill! You were insinuating that it was BS!

I don't think he was insuiating anything of the kind. I think he deliberately avoided any implication at all about the truth of the comment.

I'd bet he took the job at Oberlin because it's the only college off of the "left coast" that's anywhere near as liberal as the Bay area. Or maybe it's because they still have more Big 10 mile titles than Ohio State.

Seriously, though, if he's looking for a no-pressure small-town job, he couldn't have done better. The football team is one of the least successful programs in D-III, and the alumni would rather see new academic facilties than a winning football team. And he's still within a short drive of two decent-sized cities (Cleveland and Columbus).

As opposed to two decent cities!

Being originally from Cleveland -- I'll remember that one

Anyways, Vin had this job locked up several weeks ago and visited the college back in April. He was also the top candidate for the position, so it was basically his at the time when he visited. I wish him well and hope he can adjust again to the cold weather in the winter.

                    A headline idea:

                    LANANNA SPLIT

Perhaps he wanted to be near a real track and field facility. I haven't seen one in California. If he goes to Columbus sometime he can see a real track stadium with such things as restroom facilities and real, reasonably priced concessions! It is also possible to see the outside lane on the home straight from the stands. Imagine that!

I gotta poach this one for all the 40-somethings on the board. This came from the Darkwing site:

<<USA Track & Field reported today that longtime Stanford track and cross country coach, Vin Lananna, would leave his job to take the post of Delta
Lodge Director of Athletics and professor of physical education at Oberlin College in Ohio.">>

Jim Gerweck of Running Times then responded:

<<I think this is all the result of a horrible misunderstanding. Lanana thought he was accepting the post of Delta HOUSE Director at Faber College,
                        replacing Dean Wormer.>>

                        road trip!!!!!!

I predict Vin will be back as AD at Stanford within a couple of years!
