    Wire report:

    Two former University of Colorado cross country champions took the top two places Saturday in the 10-kilometer race at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Portland, Ore.

    Jorge Torres, the 2002 NCAA Division I cross country champion, finished in 32 minutes, 43.91 seconds. Olympian Adam Goucher, the 1998 NCAA champion and three-time state champion from Doherty High School, was second in 32:59.45. Torres' twin brother Edwardo was third in 33:04.04.

    The meet at Portland Meadows race track was held under sunny skies with temperatures in the 40s, and included more than 900 competitors.

    Another AP Report:

    PORTLAND, Ore. - Three-time NCAA champion Missy Buttry won her second straight title at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

    Buttry, who became the first runner in any division, male or female, to win three consecutive cross country championships when she raced to the NCAA Division III title for Wartburg in November, won in 23 minutes, 7.85 seconds.

    Sabrina Monro was second in 23:48.39.

    i guess it was a long course, unless they were running up a steep hill all the way, 32.43 is a good time for the local fun runner, but for the top guys in the national championships, it would be a brisk morning run to get loose for the days real workout.

      As someone who ran X-Country over the Van Cortland Park course during the 50's&60's I just can not call Race track courses X-Country, but thats another thread. It does seem slow even with poor weather.

        The course was essentially flat with three or so “whoop-de-do” hills in each of the five laps. The problem was that the footing was extremely poor. The turf was very soft with almost no resiliency. There were also may mud holes on the course. Some runners lost their shoes in the mud and finished barefooted.

          Thanks for info,so they run on the race course itself, the only time I saw a distance event at a race course they ran on the inner turf course and just ran two hills per lap that were set up like the waterjump , may be 4 foot vertical over 50-60 feet.Mud a great humbler.
