Props to Al Cantello, Navy coach

A great guy. He and my dad know each other. He remembers me from when I was an infant. Besides all that, he's a credit to the sport. I met him in the Atlanta airport a few years ago after the NCAAs at Furman. I didn't go to the NCAAs, but I was at the airport and said hi to him.

Guys like this don't get enough attention. Who are some other people who don't get the credit they deserve?

As a competitor, Al was a wild and crazy guy. He developed the style of completing his javelin throw by flying chest first into the ground (cinders, grass, whatever) just short of the foul line.
Al also told me the funniest story I ever heard. I've used it for years.

I've got to admit, this is probably one of the first places I've seen "great guy" used in the same sentence as Cantello . . .
