Not your average marathon

Well since tafnut seems to be asleep at the switch(or perhaps he's just an elitist), I guess I'll post on the first Afghanistan Marathon.

A five-lap race around an airbase at 4,500 feet, 188 finished receiving the same awards for completing the race as the Honolulu competitors did.

The only Afghan entrant DNF'd after 5 miles, stating "regular soccer games are no way to prepare".


I trust T&FN had a correspondent there? Hmmm?

Excuse me, but apparently you do not understand the division of labor around here. MJD is in charge of finding news and posting links (i.e, the grunt work). My job is to provide droll commentary (i.e., the erudite analysis). He does do his job a teensy bit better than I do mine, but that's why he's paid the big bucks.
