  • Golden League jackpot

Just wondering who do you think will be able to survive the Golden League meetings for the $1,000,000 payoff. Here are the remaining 10 who will go on to Paris July 4.

100m – Mark Lewis Francis (GBR)
    800m – Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (RSA)
110m Hurdles – Stanislavs Olijars (LAT)
Pole Vault – Nick Hysong (USA)
    Javelin - Sergey Makarov (RUS)

    Women
    100m – Chandra Sturrup (BAH)
    800m – Maria Mutola (MOZ)
    1500m - Iryna Lishchynska (UKR)
400m Hurdles – Jana Pittman (AUS)

i think out of that whole list only mutola will be able to hold on, because she is really dominating over everyone else right now. both men and women 100s are up for grabs, and so is the mens 800 and hurdles. but if im right, she gets the jackpot all to herself. thats crazy.

I say only Mutola can stay the course from that group.

Looks like Mutola will need a good tax advisor.

I agree with the Mutola tout, but I think Pittman has a great shot also. Looks like an all female field here.

Y'all beat me to it about Mutola; I was thinking the same thing. But even she will have problems staying unbeaten if Ceplak enters at least 2 GL races.

The heck with who is going to win the Golden League. Why in the world would Bekele not be running in Paris?

Ask his manager. He probably wants to save his legs for the WC.

Apart from Mutola, I would say Makarov, Aldama and Pittman all have a good chance.

Isn't the JT supposed to be an inconsistent event? That would give Makarov a hard time.

                      Re: Golden League jackpot

It's just like any event - if you're better than the others, you tend to win :-p
Note that Makarov only lost ONCE last season (that was in the European champs), and he did compete a lot on the circuit.

                        Re: Golden League jackpot

And then there were two (Sturrup & Mutola). I don't know if my heart wil be able to take the excitement over the next 2 months while this high drama plays out.

Allowing a mulligan was a far better way to go: too bad they changed it.

What happens if Sturrup & Mutola both notch a loss? Does the money get folded into next year's jackpot?

                            Re: Golden League jackpot

Good question. Here's another one. What happens to Allyson Felix's prize money in Paris last night? She can't take it without losing her NCAA eligibility. So does it go to the next placer, or does the meet just keep it? (Same question if she earns prize money in the WC in August.)

The IAAF Handbook is mute on this subject, leading me to believe the money disappears; checking.
