Im a firm believer that Allyson Felix should go to college and compete against the collegiates instead of going pro at this time. Her best event is either the 200 or the 400 meters. The glamour event of track and field is the 100 meters. So her so called earning potential is deminished some. She has signed with a very prestigous school-USC- and they have dealt with athletes of her calibur before.. (Angela Williams, Balasz Kiss, Brigita Langerholc)..And all three of these athletes were better for staying at USC for four years....I also firmly believe in not pushing kids to grow up too fast...Angela Williams enjoyed her four years at USC and won the Honda-Broderick Award for Best Female Athlete in college...the experience of competing in college is a thrill of a lifetime that can't be duplicated. And she will probably have her team competing for some team championships also. Allyson will have to earn her NCAA titles once she gets at USC. The 200 and 400 meters isn't exactly a gimmie for Allyson. She will be pushed to the max....I hope she doesnt follow Allen Webb's decision and opt for the fast cash in place of growing up and enjoying the college experience.

Re: Allyson Felix should go to college
College isn't the issue. Felix has said in several interviews that her education is important to her. She wants to be a teacher after she hangs up the spikes (her father is a college religion professor, her mother is an elementary school teacher). In several interviews both parents have said that any pro deal must include college, even if she attends part-time.
The issue is whether she will give up her NCAA eligibility, & everyone says the decision is 100% hers. From what I can tell, her parents don't push her at all. SHE pushes herself, & they intervene to ensure she doesn't overdo it.
$$$ is an issue. Distance gear sells in USA, sprint gear currently does not. Hence running the 200 alone won't get her a good deal. However, her 100 (11.24) & particularly her 400 (52.26) potential has reportedly piqued interest. I think there are submarkets that U.S. track & field hasn't even tried to attack, where Felix has good marketability potential. Same goes for shoe sponsors, in relation to deploying sprinters (Marion aside).
There are pros & cons on both sides. On the one hand, there are collegians who could test Felix. Veronica Campbell, Muna Lee, Stephanie Durst...and that's just in the 200. Not to mention other folks might improve & join this group. At least USC doesn't overrun its athletes like many other schools. On the other hand, USC's athletes don't improve WHILE AT USC. They usually shine after graduation, but have pretty good careers.

"On the other hand, USC's athletes don't improve WHILE AT USC." Good luck proving that one. For every no-improver there's someone else who improves dramatically, sorta exactly like UCLA and every other school. USC has very high recruiting standards, so the ones they get, especially the foreigners, are already near a peak.

Allyson Felix and family should make this decision on there own terms. If you welcome outsiders making
right/wrong decisions for others..., then I think you should spend less time on the internet and use the time with your own kids and family members.
