I'm also especially fond of the fine British breeding as evidenced by their exquisite teeth.

You know what a British housewife does on Thursdays, don't you?
She starts boiling the roast for Sunday dinner.

Elitist... you're not American are you? Dont tell me you're American, because if you are your name simply cannot be accurate! How can Americans be 'elitist'? You're all mongrels, you dont know anything about good breeding...

I'm not looking down on them but I'm not going to join them when they are watching Survivor.

>>It's popular because third-world peoples can play it without any facilities or equipment (and not even a real ball).<<
Then why is it populer in England, Germany, Spain, Frnace, and the rest of the first world?

It's popular because third-world peoples can play it without any facilities or equipment (and not even a real ball). If I want "nuance"in a sporting event I'll watch a chess match.

Before you get too proud of yourself, remember that Robert Frost wrote "The Road Not Taken" to apply to EVERYONE. We are all eccentric, but the less 'elitist' of us recognize the equal worth of all our fellow creatures and try not to look down our noses at them.

I'm talking about mass consumption of all forms and the above posts just make my point. The minute the masses start to think that track and field is the greatest thing going, I'll get nervous and wonder what has been done to it. It's all just modern day christians vs the lions. Personally, I'd rather have eccentric interests that very few others have.

I guess what I meant to say was why must Americans be so critical of others. Can't we just say, "I don't like soccer because I don't understand it, but I'm sure it's a great game if you do understand it." Baseball and American football look even odder to the rest of the world and they just accept that we like them. Viva la difference? (probably spelled wrong)

Think about what the masses consume culturally and then answer your own question.

Most of my life soccer devotees have crammed the nuances and complexity of soccer down my throat as thought there is nothing stupid about me if I didn't get "it". In the end it's still kick-ball without the benefit of bases.

I never understand why Americans can so easily dismiss soccer when it's the MOST POPULAR sport in the world. Are all those billions of fans really that stupid, or perhaps is it that they understand the game better than we do and appreciate the nuances that are completely lost on most of us? Usually we merely show our own ignorance in our criticism.

The comedian Steven Wright once wondered if, in Europe, the jazz trumpeter Miles Davis would be known as Kilometers Davis.
