One of the coaches noticed Saxer's long arms and powerful running stride and said she would be a prime candidate for Suhr's specialty - the pole vault."

man, don't get me started here. Thanks to the link to Becca's site, I watched the 14' vault and there's LOTS of room for improvement. She's a powerful girl, and obviously very talented and coachable. Rick Suhr obviously is a great match for her. She did 12'6 her FIRST year and now already 14'!! There is a quote at his web-site that says that there's no reason why she should stop improving at a high rate, but I do think that's unrealistic right now. If she got consistent at 14' that would be the best. 14'6 is not out of the question, but I read she's going to Cornell and that's not a hotbed of vaulting (no slam on whoever's coaching there - I don't think it's close enough to Suhr for him to continue to tutor her). One thing is for absolute sure - at some point she will hit a plateau, get frustrated, and her response to that situation will determine her future. The vault is the most fickle event of all. One day you're on top and then suddenly you can't even remember how to plant!

Sorry - didn't have time to read the article yet - I see things are changing in her life at a rapid rate. Notre Dame would work. Purdue has a great program too.

Hey, I already apologized - sheeesh!

I wouldn't be worried about her size - she's already big. Not to be indelicate here, but in the video clip, when she is hugging her coach, you can see that she is not the usual HS waif PVer - she looks very sturdy. Just the usual training will keep her from getting bigger than she can already obviously handle. Her size is one of key strengths, as her coach points out in the article (see? I've read it now).
