  • Track on T.V.

To all my true track and field fans out there, is it me? Or, does ESPN have it twisted? Eating contest are on ESPN, Dart Throwing, Pillow Fight Champioships are also getting on their attention. However, you have to plan weeks in advance just to see maybe an hour of some good track on tv. What does ESPN, and the other networks have against Track and Field? Why is our sport the only one that can't be seen on cable? Please respond.

And they didn't do a half bad job of showing the women's 5000m, non-Chinese WR race.

Because they have made a business decision that it isn't worth it which is their right even if it's the wrong choice. There have been some threads praising the CBC track coverage but, trust me, we pay for it. If I could have my taxes cut for what the CBC costs me, I would take the tax cut and get my information and coverage some other way.

Track & field is actually on ESPN more than the other events you mention! Most of those events are time-buys for a networks. Right now I believe USATF partners with ESPN to air track -- it used to time buy -- with sponsors pledging to buy a certain amount of ad time. That takes more work (thus more planning) than a flat out time-buy. I also suspect USATF started this process later than it should have, hence the not so hot tape delay schedule.
