  • Who thinks Baseball is a Joke????

10 day suspension? Come on, thats not even 10% of the season. Heck, its not even 10 GAMES? A 10 game suspension would be 6% of the season, which is laughable. In the NFL, Ricky Williams is subject to what.......a 4 game suspension? Thats 1/4th of the season. The baseball equiavalent would be 40 games. You want players to stop taking steroids? Scare the dickens out of them. Its a risk reward situation. "Hmmmm, if I take them, My stats and pay will be off the chart. If I get caught, I lose 10 days. No biggie. Now, losing 40 GAMES? thats serious. Enough to make me flush everything I own RIGHT NOW."

Really, the only thing that these failed tests do is tarnish the public's perception of the player caught and the game in general. Palmeiro's chances of getting in the HOF took a huge hit yesterday. That counts for something, although he has quite a bit of money to console himself with.

I don't think any sport is a joke... but just to show you how ignorant I am about baseball... I still can't figure out why any one would take drugs in order to play baseball...

Baseball is a great game. But MLB Inc.is a joke, run by the most powerful union (if one can call a Players asso. that) known to man.

Do we need any further "evidence" that MLB is a joke other than their announcement today that Jason Giambi is the "Comeback Player of the Year" in the AL. Comeback from what? Oh, yeah, that's right...that "parasite" thing. Give me a break. I wish I could say I didn't see this coming, but ......

Way to go Bud Selig....your credibility is at an all time high right now....(yes I know who voted Giambi in). MLB might just as well have taken a big steamy dump on their "drug policy" handbook along with this announcement.

            What a joke.

Well said. If he bats above .200 next season, Ratty Palmeiro will be a worthy successor.

In the NFL I believe that a player has to fail a drug test 3 times for the substance that Rickey is in violation of prior to facing a suspension. I believe there is intervention first, then a fine and then suspensions of increasing length.

Giambi should NOT have been a candidate. If I had to wager......I'd say he [and Bonds for that matter] are still on Growth Hormone...since there is really not a test for it in MLB. Donald Fehr, Bud Selig, Giambi, Bonds, Palmeiro, McGwire, Sosa...I have NO respect for any of these guys.

...(yes I know who voted Giambi in).

"Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees and Ken Griffey Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds have been named the inaugural recipients of the 2005 Major League Baseball Comeback Player of the Year Award presented by Viagra® (sildenafil citrate) as the result of fan balloting on MLB.com, it was announced today."

The fact that he was even on the ballot is what makes me think that MLB is a joke....."This is the first comeback player of the year award officially sanctioned by Major League Baseball, which will be presented annually to one player in each League. The award will recognize the players who have re-emerged on the baseball field during a given season. Representatives of Major League Baseball and the editorial staff at MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball selected the 12 nominees - six players from each League - for the "Major League Baseball Comeback Player of the Year Award Presented by Viagra® (sildenafil citrate)."

I don't blame the fans for being retarded, I do however think that Bud Selig IS brain-dead (and on Viagra) to allow Giambi to be allowed on the ballot in the first place. Talk about a really dumb way to kick off the "...first comeback player of the year award officially sanctioned by Major League Baseball..."

I'm waiting to see who "Sporting News" names as their CPOY. I'm willing to bet that after 40 years of doing this they will think twice about naming Jackedup Giambi. Time will tell.
