good news--well, relatively speaking--is that Masback notes that there are only ("only") 5 positives and none of them involve Paris medalists.

I think you mean 4 positives, but this is still in disagreement with the earlier quoted figure of 20. I'm wondering where the rest went?

I hope this is just a rumor. I have been a fan of Regina Jacobs for years and admire her for her commitment to Track and Field. If indeed she tested positive for THG, I am sure she is not aware that the supplements she was taking contained THG. Oh God, this is just unbelievable...

I am just a fan of the sports and quite frankly I like all the track and field athletes who commit themselves in competing year after year after year. As a fan who likes the athletes and love watching the sport, I do not speculate or get mad if a certain athlete lose.

Before we condemn or crucify certain athletes we need to know specifically if indeed they intentionally injected these drugs to their bodies with the knowledge that it contains THG and how it affects their bodies. Some of them may be taking pills like vitamins not knowing it contains THG. So before we start witch hunting and hanging people, we need to find the facts.

I know that this is a legal practice here in America but I don't like the idea of an anonimous accuser. He/she should reveal his/her identity to be doing this kind of accusations.

If you would be this man who knows (have proof) that there is wide spread dope use, would you come to puplic and tell it with your own name and face?? I doubt that...

First of all I believe THG must be injected with a syringe. I'm not a chemist but from what I've read THG is also a steroid that chemists "create." So it would not be in a naturally occurring vitamin. Now, I know there have been athletes that have been unknowningly been given drugs. But at the elite level you either have to be an idiot to not know what you're being injected with or your doctor is lying to you. Lastly, you don't get accidently injected with a drug that costs $15,000 for a two month supply.

This new test for THG never would have been developed if it were not for an anonymous (perhaps jealous) coach that sent in the needle and Dr. Don Catlin who has long been suspicious of an undetectable steroid WITHOUT having any evidence until now.

I would like to hear your comments.

Oh, well, they probably injected it while she was asleep... or she believed vitamins have to come in the form of tongue injections to work... But maybe I'm underestimating her, and she'll come up with a more creative excuse :-p

I have, for quite some time. Rumor is she dropped out of a previous major championship (2000 Oly games???) because of possible testing for EPO...

I have long suspected Jacobs (and others) of using illegal drugs so this does not surprise me. However, this story would have a lot more credibility if the names of the "track sources" were made public. Also, why did it take an un-named "high profile" track & field coach to get the ball rolling???? I smell something rotten here.

Any athlete who knew about this mess and also remained silent should look in the mirror and ask themself why they did not go public with what they knew.

I only hope that in this process of outing the athletes we don't lose sight of the fact that USATF officials new about the positive tests and did not do anything ab out it until they were forced to admit it. Masback, Roe, and Casells (and others), need to be held accountable for their silence. I already see Masback and Roe putting a spin on this situation to make themselves look good. (Calling for a Drug Summit in DC).

As we speak I have to believe that new and undetectable drugs have been/are being developed that will stay one step ahead of the testers. Having retro-active penalties is a good stand to take, but unless the insiders (athletes and coaches) step forward and speak up we will see this situation appear again and again in the future.

I'm glad Jacobs is finally going to be held accoutable for her actions and I'm glad that this is finally in the public eye. It can only help the sport of T&F going forward. A bit of pain now will go a long way to getting the sport back on the credibilty track.

PLEASE tell me you were being sarcastic when you said that!! It's not like it's much of a shock that she's tested positive now, is it?
