It has been very interesting for me to follow these doping news. I live in Finland and we had our own scandal with the cross-country skiers a couple of years ago in Lahti. Unfortunately I had bought tickets to the last weekend and there were no one left...
Our best male skiers started to get caught one by one during the games, and everyone gave different excuses. The first one assured that he had always had problems with his blood and thats why he used some drugs. Nobody at the Finnish Skiing Federation knew about his stunt and he was the only one. But later every one of our most famous skiers were explaining different things in television, and the Federation doctors were the ones who had given them the drugs.
The one thing that really pissed me off was that the skiers were talking about the Gray Zone in skiing. That means that there are some drugs that arent exactly forbidden but the effect of the drugs surely is, the skiers also used oxygene tents and some other systems to give them an edge.
I think that when you as an athlete get to the point that you really believe that you can step around in some kind of Gray Zone, you are deep in Black Zone already. Its really stupid to try to convince me that because this and this drug wasnt at some list with this particular name, it was OK to use it. I didnt know what I ate, I didnt know what they injected in me. If you are an international athlete, you just HAVE TO KNOW. Excuses make me so angry, how stupid do they think we are?
