    Here is the only reason not to cheat: because there can be no true satisfaction or sense of accomplishment in winning if one cheats. Competing becomes pointless under these circumstances.

    You underestimate the power of rationalization, to wit:

    Everyone else is cheating, so I will cheat and then when I beat them, it will be fair and square.

        A lot of people cheat on their taxes. Doesn't make it right or defensible for one to use that as a rationalization to conduct one's affairs in a criminal manner too.

            Absolutely, but it sure makes it easy. Have you ever rolled through a stop sign or gone 5 mph over the speed limit? It's against the law! See how easy that was? I'm sure you rationalized it to yourself. I'm not condoning it - just commenting how these guys do it in 'good' conscience.
