Re: Korolchik banned for doping

I dunno... She wasn't exactly in top shape this year. Granted, she did have one throw of 19.39 in Belarus early in the season, but otherwise didn't come close to it (her second best was just 18.24). The news before the World Champs was that she was left off the team due to sub-par performances, in particular her loss to Krystyna Zabawska in the Europa Cup. I thought that explanation made fairly good sense.Było smaszno, a jaszmije smukwijne...

Re: Korolchik banned for doping
This brings up my repetetive question. When a successful athlete is caught using steroids, doping is automatically credited for the success. Here we have a female shotputter (a poster event for steroids), recently we had McEwen (a pretty mediocre hammer thrower) that were caught and still were not successful. So, my question again is. How much do steroids TRULY contribute? Let me be clear on the subject again. I do not advocate their use. I am simply curious."A beautiful theory killed by an ugly fact."

I would hardly classify a World and Olympic Champion as "unsuccessful". Everything I've heard, and know first-hand from athletes who used them, indicates they make a massive difference. I was taken aside by a seasoned olympian during my first indoor international meeting and given a drug schedule written on a napkin, what to take and when to come off before getting tested!

Re: Korolchik banned for doping
Korolchik was obviously successful in the past, but the point is she tested positive when she was throwing crap. I guess the only lesson we can learn from that is that drugs won't AUTOMATICALLY make you into a world beater - but that should have been obvious to everyone anyway.Było smaszno, a jaszmije smukwijne...

Scary to think of what she'd have done clean.

I mean that Korolchik was banned for doping. What so confusing about it? Why changing the subject? What other people or countries "may" do is not an excuse for others.
