Sorry, that should be "cyclists," and its bearing on our sport should be obvious.

If their is a sport more rife with drug abuse than track it's cycling, I don't think anybody that wins is clean in that sport........

""At the moment it's not difficult to fool the UCI 'vampires' [doctors who do surprise
haematocrit tests in the morning of a race]," Manzano explained. "You get half an
hour after the medical inspectors turn up and notify you, so the riders with low
levels go down first. It's a practice to gain time. The [team] doctors are always
prepared. The rest of the cyclists, who have the highest values, are given human
plasma and glucose and go down to do the controls at the end. These can lower
your haematocrit level by four points.""

Lance Armstrong has been accused constantly in Europe for years, especially by the French press. He's been tested and tested and tested and (perhaps so far) has been clean.

Armstrong said a couple weeks ago that he was tested 24 times in 2004.

Armstrong has also openly defended himself and his sport from both direct and indirect attacks. He recently had a public war of words with Dick Pound over some general stupidity spoken by Pound.

Here is the referenced article. As someone else has pointed out, all this did, unfortunately, was give some undeserved publicity to a heretofore unknown reporterette.

"Last year I was drug tested more than 24 times."

Well, if the article MJD quotes above is correct, the negative tests don't mean that much, do they? BTW, it's interesting the way some people here insist all cyclists are dirty, but at the same time defend the one who has been beating them all for a few years now...

Like all sports, there is cheating in cycling. But to say "all" cyclists are dirty is stupid. Even in the good old days of doping in cycling not everyone was dirty (you think t&f has a long black history of doping then take a look at cycling). One thing to note- Armstrong and many other cyclists are tested by bodies other than UCI like WADA and USADA.
