...who are really taking this drug thing seriously. They put a sign up:

"The steroid warning -- a 79-word paragraph -- can be
seen twice in a hallway entering the clubhouse and
    also in the trainer's room."

Oh come on. You shouldn't make light of such a serious attempt to reform.

I assume you're kidding, MJD. Those signs are a joke. In fact, baseball's drug policy is a joke and will remain so until they commit to year round out-of-competition testing combined with immediate four-year suspension (at least) for those caught cheating. That'll be the day, eh?

(I say four years, by the way, because that's what track and field had before yielding to arguments that under the law applicable in a number of European countries, anything more than two years was considered a restraint of trade. Nobody ever made that suggestion in a US or Canadian case, and if they had, they would have been laughed out of court. Baseball does not have to worry about EU law.)

You can bet your bippie that Bonds hitting a homer in his first game now that it's a given (insert smiley here) thta he's clean is going to absolutely convince the faithful that he is being unfairly dogged by steroid rumours (which, of course, perhaps he is).

Note that Bonds didn't just hit a home run, he went 3-3 with a pair of doubles as well.

I saw him ground into a DP. I guess he can't be on the juice right now.

                  Maybe tomorrow.

More proof that MLB is serious about cleaning up the sport:

"Major League Baseball will doubtless be happy to know this morning that Justin Miller has complied with an edict
to cover up any visible tattoos on his arm."

                      I like this article.

                      Particularly this part:

"Besides, I've had it up to the top hair in Randy Johnson's mullet with all this steroid hysteria. I'm tired of reading how the scandal is going to cast a black cloud over baseball all season, and how all the recent performances should carry an asterisk. Yes, steroids are bad and baseball should work to try to eliminate them. But how much longer is baseball supposed to be the nation's official punchline for steroids when there is a league filled with 220-pound safeties, 260-pound quarterbacks and 330-pound linemen?"

He left out 'but they have testing'.

I turn on CNBC every morning when I get up and they have had Bonds on there each of the last few mornings when they do their sports thing at the quarter hour.
