  • USADA responds to Marion Jones

Bob Ramsak just shipped it around. I assume someone else around here is on their mailing list and has it.

That's a major smackdown to Marion. I think USADA is getting REALLY weary of her lobbying and cheap shots.

Think all this noise is going to make her look more innocent if she doesn't compete in Athens?

    Think again.

Anyone caught up in any kind of judicial process should understand that these things take time. Everybody wants it done YESTERDAY but yelling that wish at a bunch of reporters isn't going to make it happen any faster.

Marion is really Jones-ing these days. That explains her behaviour.

Travis Tygart sounds like he knows his stuff. From the sound of his response, I like the guy.

USADA probably couldn't hold anything public because the documents they'd ask Marion to explain probably incriminate other athletes, too, who aren't willing to give up confidentiality. It's a grandstand on MJ's part because she knows they won't do anything public because it's against their rules.

Also it sounds like she's going to refuse to cooperate further, unless she gets a public hearing?

Sounds like Conte is getting a little desperate not to do jail time. They may still be able to get him to plea, in exchange for testimony -- though Marion Jones certainly will contest the credibility of anyone who's bargained to get out of jail.

I have a hunch the merde is just about to hit the fan. The questions are: how big a load is it and how far will it fly?

I really don't think they have substantial documented proof against her otherwise she would have been informed by now. She is playing the PR game because she doesn't know if Graham, CJ or Conte are going to grass on her; she's setting the ground work for the, "poor little me, they're lying to get themselves off the hook", which is sure to come if one of them does.

You can color me as one of those who thinks without actually saying so that she is probably guilty but I am going to give her the benefit of the doubt anyway. There may be a little bit of a bluffing game that she is playign but leave us just supposse that she is innocent since that is the human thing to do. Should she not have a real fear that they are going to drag this out and spring it on her too late for her to do the whole appeals process and she is left watching the plane take off and then they do not prove the case against her?

Re: USADA responds to Marion Jones

Innocent question -- and I'm beginning to lose memory of the time line -- but was able to find the very helpful T&F THG timeline, but please forgive if I get the chronology wrong:

Marion Jones didn't compete last year, and presumably wasn't taking drugs while having a baby. THG scandal erupts in September? -- so MJ, if she's smart, doesn't go back on performance enhancers when she comes back. Is this a sensible assumption?

So she hasn't used performance enhancers for maybe a couple years? So currently and for maybe two years she's been clean -- and has no competitive advantage, since the effects of past drug use would have worn off. She's being busted for cheating of a couple years ago -- or when would she plausibly have last taken drugs?

Don't get me wrong -- she should be censured for past drug use. Just trying to get a sense of what her potential competitive advantage today would be, if any -- and I know that's not the real issue. She should pay if she cheated.
