800 Meter Records

I did not realize that the collegiate best in the 800 M (1:41.77 Joaquim Cruz 1984) is better than the AR (1:42.6 Johnny Gray 1985). Moreover these records are 20 years old give or take a few months!

The NCAA Meet record may probably fall this year.......

Unfortunately it didn't but next year if Kevin Hicks puts his mind to it he could have the indoor and ourdoor marks all to himself. Any takers on this. Come back utkvol80!!!!!!

Hicks has as good as a chance as anyone to do this; arguably he was the best American college 800 meterist, despite all the hype for Johnson.

Hopefully some of that hype will follow Hicks if he is successful at the trials he will be one of
big names coming back next year.

Since Joaquim Cruz was also the Olympic Champion the same year and many expected him to break Coe's world record, it should not be surprising that it is better than the AR and still is the NCAA record.

Considering the burden involved in running in the NCAA, breaking this record would be very difficult indeed.

Yes it would but he in my opinion has yet to reach his peak in this event and as I have said before the better the competition the faster Hicks
runs too bad JJ didn't qualify because he could
have played the role of the rabbit and carried
everyone thru the first 400 in 50.00 seconds
or better.

Yes indeed. let's he continues to do well, and make the WC team. By the way, did you notice that JJ did not advance to the final. He must burned out during the college season.

Yes I heard too bad because everytime they race
JJ plays the role of the volunteer rabbit for KH
and leads the pack through the first lap in at least 50.0 seconds easy but he runs out of gas
at the end and my guy blows right by him in the
home stretch.Who will play the role of the volunteer rabbit this time now that JJ is no longer eligible in your opinion?
