I just got through reading 6th IAAF Statistics Handbook (Athens 1997).
The book states: (Tokyo 1991)
"Scientific analysis showed that the winner (Powell) actually leapt 8.98m including a toe-to-plasticine distance measured at 3 cm."
It also states, re. 1987 World Champs it says, "According to the IAF Scientific Report of the championship, Lewis actually cleared 8.84m on his first jump. The distance includes 2 centimeters “lost” on the takeoff board and another 15 in the sand. His other “effective” distances were 8.68, 8.67, 8.64 and 8.76."
Does anyone out there have any more "effective" or "actual" distances for Lewis, Powell or any other great leapers??
